In January, Hayley Heyes, spoke about a Social Change project Byron School had recently started to support the families who were experiencing challenges coping with the cost-of-living crisis.
One of the actions was to have a Come and Take Uniform event each term as part of their commitment to reduce, reuse and recycle school uniforms to the benefit of the environment and families.
The second of two such events was held on 17 July at Byron Primary School. Stella and Jane Barnes assisted preparing at both events. This time they went along and spent 2 hours sorting through and packing the donated clothes using vertical folding into storage boxes marked for each age group. When sorted other volunteers to took over and assist as families came in to see what was available. Last term 8 families used the opportunity but this time there was between 30 and 40 families who came along. Obviously the need is great and growing in these challenging times.
