We all know walking – even just 20 mins a day – can do wonders for your mental health and physical health. It helps to;
- Reduce stress
- Boost heart health
- Clear your mind
- Improve sleep and,
- Lift your mood, among other things.
With all that in mind, on an overcast Saturday in March a few of our members got together for a 5K walk along the windswept but picturesque promenade at Aberavon Beach with SI Regional President Sharon Dixon.
Sharon Dixon, Wales South said “A great walk with Fellow Soroptimist’s followed by a cupper and a natter! Taking good care of our well-being!! Just enjoying some Fun and Friendship… The rain stayed away”
Walking has an additional benefit for Women as it regulates cortisol (stress hormone) and supports hormonal health, especially during menopause or menstrual cycles. It strengthens bones reducing the risk of osteoporosis which is an increased risk for post-menopausal women. It can improve cardiovascular health and reduce the risk of heart disease. Walking outdoors boosts serotonin and endorphins, helping manage anxiety, depression and emotional overwhelm as well as being a low impact accessible way to stay fit with zero cost.
