On the 300th Anniversary of his birth, SI Members enjoyed an interesting talk from SIPT member Janner Herd about the life of Dr Richard Price, a philosopher, mathematician and political thinker whose ideas helped shape the modern world. Price, from Llangeinor a small village in Bridgend, was a champion of liberty, reason and moral progress, and supported both the American and French Revolutions and was an early advocate for civil rights and pension reform.  His work influenced major thinkers of his day and his legacy lives on. Ask Janner about her interest in Dr Price, to link to relevance. https://www.glamfhs.org.uk/

International Women’s Day is a powerful reminder of the achievements, struggles, and ongoing journey toward gender equality. Celebrated on March 8th, it honours the contributions of women in every part of society — from homes to governments, classrooms to boardrooms. It’s a day to celebrate progress, recognise challenges, and amplify the voices of women around the world, while continuing to push for equal rights, opportunities, and respect for all. SI Port Talbot held our annual breakfast at Ysbryd-Y-Mor on Aberavon seafront.  We provided a beautiful fair- trade continental breakfast for 75 guests and members alongside the wonderful sea views. Our outstanding speaker was Louise Fleet, Lord Lieutenant of West Glamorgan.  Louise presented an excellent and informative talk about her career along with outlining her role a Lord Lieutenant.  Due to the high success of the event, and thanks to the incredible support of attendees, we

Today SI PT Members visited Plas Llanelly House. A beautifully restored Georgian townhouse nestled in the centre of Llanelli, full of character and local history.  We were given an excellent tour and were regaled with stories of past residents. The house was built in the early 1700s, and has seen centuries of change, from grand family gatherings to the local town’s industrial rise. Today, the historic Home welcomed our Club members. We received a warm welcome and took a turn about the rooms like the ladies of Bridgeton, relaxing in the inviting atmosphere, and taking the opportunity to step back in time. We enjoyed a tasty Christmas lunch in its beautifully restored rooms; it truly is a Welsh Georgian Gem. https://www.llanelly-house.org.uk/

Christmas Trees at the Castle

Christmas Trees at the Castle

In December we were delighted to place our Christmas Tree in the Castle at Margam Park. Our tree was decorated in Ukrainian colours, with the theme of peace. Adorning the tree were prayers in both English and Ukrainian from local groups and children. The majestic Tudor Gothic Mansion is transformed into a winter wonderland around December, offering visitors a magical atmosphere to explore and enjoy. The “Christmas Tree at the Castle” event at Margam Park is part of the annual Community Christmas Tree Festival.  This yearly festival typically runs from mid-November to late December. It is organised in partnership with The Friends of Margam Park.  Local schools, businesses, and community groups are invited to decorate their own Christmas trees, which are then displayed inside the historic Castle. http://www.friendsofmargampark.co.uk/
