Tree planting for the centenary

in

Rugby Soroptomist members and friends planted trees for the Soroptomist national centenary event. As part of the Soroptimist Centenary (1921-2021), all Clubs were encouraged to plant trees, as this activity was undertaken by the very first Soroptimist Club in the USA. We did our bit, planting trees in Yelvertoft with many different varieties, including cherry, blackthorn and whitethorn. 150 trees were planted in total. After all the hard work the Soroptomist club members enjoyed tea and cake in the sunshine.

Each year Soroptomist Rugby take part in the annual Christmas Tree Festival at St Andrew’s church in the centre of Rugby. The event raises money for local charities and trees are decorated on different themes. We decorate a tree each year, often using the blue and gold colours of Soroptomist. The 2021 entry was themed around 100 years of Soroptomist International and the church’s theme of ‘Let there be light.’

Diwali is the five-day Festival of Lights, celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs and Jains across the world. It is a festival of new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness.
