Friendship Link Clubs

Vilnius Old Town, Lithuania

Three club members and one husband revisted Vilnius for their thirtieth anniversary in September 2025.  This was a splendid weekend with lots of food friends and laughter.  There was also plenty of music as there was a Pop Festival taking place in the main square beside the cathedral!!  We enjoyed a friendship evening in a small museum near the centre with lots of special dishes made by members.  On Saturday morning there was a bus tour of the city of Vilnius followed by a delicious lunch in one of the oldest hostels in Vilnius.  When we recovered from that it was off to the museum and the Ducal Palace where we had an elaborate dinner with entertainment and speeches.  Finally on Sunday we returned to the beautiful lake at Trakai where the sun shone and we enjoyed a boat trip around the lake and (more) local specialties.  It was a really great celebration where we also met Soroptimists from Iceland and Finland.

Banjul, The Gambia

During Judy Nixon’s year as president, she chose to support a market garden project in The Gambia and later went out to visit the project; here she is admiring the rice crop.At the recent Barbados Conference, Jean Tyler and members were able to meet up with friendship link club Banjul.  The photograph shows President Jean presenting a cheque to Jane Clement (in the middle) and Catherine Goswell  ( on the right).

Grenada

Several club members visited Grenada after the Barbados conference.

The photograph shows members of both clubs visiting one of the projects helped by SI Grenada.

Amsterdam Amstel

Many club members have enjoyed stays with their friendship link in Amsterdam.  There have been a number of friendship weekends which provide wonderful opportunities to visit various sites around Amsterdam with some of the ‘locals’.  More recently members have held joint meetings using Zoom.

George Town Tasmania

Club members have met up with members of the Georgetown at the SI International Conference over the years and one or two members have also visited each other’s clubs.  One of our founder members, Margaret Weller,  travelled extensively with her work as an Aero Ambulance Nurse and was able to meet up with the Georgetown Soroptimists.  Recently the two clubs met up via Zoom and hope to repeat this at the end of November.

Katmandu, Nepal

Katmandu is our newest Friendship Link club.  Through this connection, the club has undertaken to fund a Nepalese student through her law studies at the university of Katmandu.  Club members Penny and Dee (back row left) have visited the club.
