Charity Cake Stall on Pwllheli Market

Charity Cake Stall on Pwllheli Market

in

Remember all those skills you honed during last year’s  “Bake Off”? Put them to good use now and make some cakes for the stall on Wednesday 15th July. We are running a Cake stall in aid of Gwynedd and Ynys Môn Hospice at Home. For those who were unable to attend the talk on 18th June this is one of President Chris’s chosen charities for the year; it does amazing work in the community and is always in need of funds. The more money they have, the more they can offer to the  people in their care, not only by way of nursing but also in complimentary care to help make life more pleasant for their patients. Hopefully the weather will be kinder to us this year – last time we had a market stall the heavens opened!

Presidents Edna and Louise gave a cheque for £1200  to Snap Cymru at the end of their year. This organisation helps the parents of children with disabilities throughout Wales. Due to the lack of funds this money cannot be used locally but has to go to the central fund, from where it will be distributed to the various localities as needed.

Presidents Edna and Louise presented a cheque for £1200 to the local Riding for the Disabled Centre at Treborth. This centre does not charge the riders for their lessons and so relies heavily on donations. The children from Ysgol Pendalar use this facility and it is amazing to see the changes in confidence and communication skills that  the  riding sessions make.

Once again some members of SISC took part in the Race for Life in Caernarfon to help raise money for Cancer Research. The weather was cold and windy (there were 42mph gusts in the Menai Straits!) but luckily the rain had stopped by the time the runners started the 5K. course. One member jogged the entire course and the others all walked briskly – if only to keep warm! The “runners”  raised over £1500 between them so congratulations!!

Summer Singing for the Elderly

Summer Singing for the Elderly

12 members of the club recently visited The Pines and Plas Madog  Homes for the Elderly in Criccieth and Porthmadog.  There they sang for the residents. The songs were from the war years and traditional English and Welsh airs. The Residents enjoyed the entertainment and some joined in with the singing. The staff say that they  talk about the singing for some weeks after the event. The members of SISC who sang  had had a couple of “practise” sessions prior to the afternoon, and they enjoyed the visit too! The “Choir” will sing for the Elderly again at Christmas time, when the carols and Christmas songs will again be sung in both Welsh and English

President Edna and members of S I South Caernarfonshire visited Ysgol Pendalar and presented this Special Needs School with a cheque for £1200. This was 1/3 of the money raised at the “Funtastic Evening” held at Porth Tocyn Hotel in October 2014. Riding for the Disabled at Treborth and SNAP Cymru, an organisation which supports parents with special needs children, also received similar cheques. The School is going to use the money to buy outdoor play equipment for  the pupils to use. The club also helps running the  charity shop which the staff and pupils at the school organise in order to raise funds. Working in the shop helps the pupils to gain confidence in life skill tasks. These include sorting, washing and ironing  of donated clothes and the pricing of these and other goods as well as dealing with the public and handling money in the

We have just been singing in one of the local Old People’s Homes. They all seem to enjoy the carols and many of them join in. The Staff say that  the residents look forward to our visits and talk about them for some time after the event. This summer  we also  sang for  the elderly which was a great success

Members of the club and their guests recently enjoyed a “Funtasic Evening” at Porth Tocyn Hotel. About 65 people attended and the evening raised a tremendous £3658! The proceeds will be shared amongst SNAP Cymru, a group  which supports parents who have children with Special Needs, Ysgol Pendalar, a Special Needs school which enables their pupils to find a place in society and lead fulfilling lives and Riding for the Disabled. This local group makes no charge to their riders and the confidence that people of all ages get from this activity has to  be seen to be believed. Thank you all who attended , gave raffle prizes and donations and made this evening such a success.
