Soroptimist International - South East England

Soroptimist International of South East England is part of a worldwide organisation of women, which is linked to the United Nations.

Welcome to our Region

As Soroptimists we are members of the largest women’s service organisation in the world. Our Region is part of the Soroptimist International of Great Britain and Ireland (SIGBI) Federation.  There are 11 Soroptimist Clubs and 2 school clubs within the South East England Region. See the map of the Region.

As Soroptimists we work to improve the lives of women and girls locally, nationally and internationally by helping them to achieve their potential and aspirations through education, empowerment and enabling opportunities.

President Sue Edgar’s Message

Theme ‘ It’s Never Too Late’

Welcome to the South East of England – Soroptimist International website where you can find out information about this global organisation, find a local Club to you and get an understanding of what Soroptimism is all about.

My name is Sue Edgar from Soroptimist International East Grinstead and I have just taken office as the Regional President.

My theme for the my Presidential Year is ‘ It’s Never Too Late’.  That phrase covers a multitude of interpretations!

It’s never too later to make new friends, to try new activities, to volunteer within your communities and our eleven Soroptimist Clubs (within the region) can help you make those steps to significantly contribute to the work that we do in terms of service to our communities or raising funds for our supported charities.

It’s never too late to join a litter pick, plant a tree, knit a trauma bear, get involved!

Soroptimist International advocates for education for all women and girls across the world.  Education is key and we support projects across the World and close to our Clubs. Every person has the right to education, to be able to read and write opening up a world of learning.

During my year as President recurring themes will be to support local women’s refuges, safety for women and girls, campaign for Anti-Spiking to be addressed and education.

As we near the beginning of the UN’s 16 Days of Activism, starting on the 25th November – 10th December 2024, look out for activities in your neighbourhood, find your local Soroptimist Club and see what they are doing to raise awareness.

It’s never too late to take a chance on something new…….
