Following a lovely display in the library of the Club and our work, Jenny and Marion visited the schools that entered the Fairtrade competition to make presentations of prizes and certificates. Pupils from Willowbank School; St Johns School; Tiverton High School; Beech Grove School and Heathcoat School submitted a fantastic range of decorated hands and posters promoting Fairtrade month and Rosa kindly undertook the unenviable task of judging the entries.

May Friendship Walk

May Friendship Walk

Club members invited the local community to join them in a walk along the Great Western Canal on Sunday May 21st to celebrate “Walking a Mile for Membership Month”. We were delighted to welcome many new faces of all ages and both genders who chatted the full 3 miles of the walk. At the end of the walk many stayed on to have a drink at the Canal Tea Rooms & Gardens with a complimentary piece of cake and to continue talking with each other. A collection towards the local group for people with dementia, Singing to Remember, raised £69.

Club member Janine shared with us her very interesting work with Superact as Project Manager for the Handmade Wellbeing project. This project brings art and creativity to residents of care homes in the South West. Click here to watch a lovely video of residents that have benefited from the project and here to see a resume on the Superact webpage.

Club members braved the elements to raise awareness of International Women’s Day on the 8th March and to collect for Children’s Hospice South West. Despite the dreary weather, our smiles and laughter never faded 🙂

Whodunnit at the Valentine Murder Mystery Dinner?

Over 110 people enjoyed a delicious 2 course meal provided by Devon Kitchens on the evening of the 25th February 2017 whilst trying to solve the mystery of who committed the murder during the evening. Liquid refreshments were available from the well stocked bar supplied by the Jolly Vintner and overall £1027.14 was raised for our Club charities.              .                     Very many thanks to the cast of the Willand Theatrical Society for providing us with the entertainment for the evening; to Lydia, Renee, Gaby and Ben for excellent waitering; to Busy Bees for selling tickets on our behalf and a BIG thank to all those that came along and supported our event; our Club charities will be very grateful for this support.

Bedsocks bring delight to residents

Bedsocks bring delight to residents

Club President, Jenny, went to St Georges residential home to take some bedsocks. She met four of the residents and had her photo taken with each of them. They were delighted especially when she told them they were a gift!. Barbara knew about Soroptimists as she had met them a while back when they were on ‘The Bridge’! She thought that it was a great idea to have a women’s group and especially one that helped women and girls. Who’d have thought knitting a pair of bedsocks could have given so much pleasure to so many people?
