Programme Action SI Tiverton and District
Our Charities for this year are:
Unite Carers
A charity based in Tiverton providing support, information and activities for the benefit of unpaid caters of any age who look after someone who depends on them.
This includes a befriending service, provision of a safe space for those with dementia and a counselling service.
SEAfoRS
A small charity in Sierra Leone supporting marginalised farmers (mostly women) with a small loan of £85.00 for one growing season which when repaid is passed on to another farmer. Started with £1,000; all loans were repaid within six months and so far in three years 45 villagers have benefitted.
The charity was started by a Tiverton civil engineer who had worked in Sierra Leone during the Ebola epidemic.
CHAT
Regular support on a monthly basis to our local food bank and debt and housing advice charity. Very much in demand at the present time.
In addition to supporting local charities, we also support the Soroptimist International Foundation.
We aim to be women inspiring action and transforming lives.
In addition, we support the work of Sustainable Tiverton. We have monthly speakers and are happy to give them a donation for their charity which in turn helps us to help others. With our speaker donations, we have supported this year so far. Bounce Brighter Futures, British Legion, National Garden Scheme, Devon Rape Crisis and Sexual Abuse Services Children’s Hospice South West.
