We recently received an email from Margareth Johansson who is President of SI Falkenberg in Sweden.
She was visiting Torquay at the beginning of November and asked if members of the Torquay & District SI would like to meet up with her. Emails were exchanged and arrangements made to meet her one afternoon at the Riviera Centre Torquay. She enjoys meeting with Soroptimists from other countries and was interested to hear what projects our club is working with.
During the afternoon she talked about her club SI Falkenberg who are working on different projects, both in Sweden and abroad.
They have for some years helped a female student (Asha) in India study IT. Asha has recently been to Sweden and attended one of their business meetings. A South African a girl (Geriann) has been supported with her school fees.
They also support Sweden’s projects Solvatten. Solvatten is a combined water treatment and water heater system used in situations where water resources are scarce and prone to contamination. It enables children and their families living without safe water to improve their quality of life, the Solvatten solution brings lasting change.
Gaynor and Barbara very kindly took her to Rosegarth and gave her a tour of the house and gardens.
Margareth has written with thanks for meeting her that afternoon, and hopes to come to Torquay again, if any of us would like to visit the west coast of Sweden we have her contact details.
