Assisting
Torbay’s
Homeless
PATH Torbay are a local charity who assist Torbay’s homeless 365 days a year. They provide essential provisions, advice, support and signposting who rely on donations such as clothes, sleeping bags, blankets, tents, camping equipment, toiletries, dog food, cold and hot drinks and food.
Earlier this year Kath Friedrich visited the Torquay & District Soroptimist International. She gave an inspirational talk on the PATH humble beginnings to what they do today with the support of the public. Kath goes out on nightly visits searching for as long as it takes to help as many people as possible, distributing food made by her team of sandwich makers and hot drinks. Everything that gets donated is passed on to people who need it the most and are living on the streets. Some of the people Kath meets are so cold they can hardly speak, with only the clothes they stand up in. She leaves them with valuable essentials to keep them safe and warm during the night and signposting to where they can get help in the morning.
Our members were happy to donate to the PATH collection box and keen to support this charity in what ever way we could, so as promised we supported the PATH SOCKTOBER APPEAL as they give out clean fresh socks 365 days a year.
Good foot hygiene can reduce huge blisters, athletes foot and trench foot, there has been a marked decrease in these by tackling these painful problems at source, homeless often have to walk miles in any one day and clean socks make all the difference.
Members collected in excess of 170 pairs of socks which have been taken to PATH today along with knitted scarves, hats, hand warmers and blankets, which I’m sure will be used tonight with temperatures dropping and winter has hardly started.
