People Assisting Torbay’s Homeless PATH Torbay are a local charity who assist Torbay’s homeless 365 days a year. They provide essential provisions, advice, support and signposting who rely on donations such as clothes, sleeping bags, blankets, tents, camping equipment, toiletries, dog food, cold and hot drinks and food. Earlier this year Kath Friedrich visited the Torquay & District Soroptimist International.  She gave an inspirational talk on the PATH humble beginnings to what they do today with the support of the public.  Kath goes out on nightly visits searching for as long as it takes to help as many people as possible, distributing food made by her team of sandwich makers and hot drinks.  Everything that gets donated is passed on to people who need it the most and  are living on the streets.  Some of the people Kath meets are so cold they can hardly

Well done to all who took part! Cheryl Rider

Thursday July 20th Interclub Meeting at Brixham There was a lot of noise at the Brixham Rugby Club one Thursday evening in July. No, nothing to do with rugby – the Soroptimists had arrived! The club house is the headquarters for Brixham Soroptimists and they had invited Torquay and Plymouth ladies to join them for their Speaker Meeting. The room was packed ready to listen to John Risdon, born in Brixham, is a well known local historian from the Galmpton & Churston Local History Group. Brixham President, Wenona Pappin kept order with her gavel. (Now we all want one.)  She gave out messages and information and then mentioned food! It was delicious and there were seconds! Congratulations to the Brixham ladies in charge of supper – it was a triumph. The evening was a chance to mix and connect with other ladies. There was a

This October Torquay & District SI will be supporting PATH with the Socktober appeal which is run all over the world. Members aim to ‘make a difference’ by donating men’s socks to our socktober collection box, which will be at our meeting room. This is a great idea to bring some clean socks from their husbands, sons or brothers to donate to make someone who is homeless a bit more comfortable. Path get through a lot of socks and with wet weather round the corner it certainly will make a huge difference.
