WBHS Sorops opt to fund-raise for Depaul – the homeless and teenage pregnancies.

Our next get together is March 21st when the WBHS Sorops will return with their plan of action to raise money by holding a NON-UNIFORM DAY.

Thanks to senior coordinator, Jasmine Burns who gave a great introduction to the NIGHTSTOP project. It costs £15 per night for each young person to have a bed, evening meal, breakfast, packed lunch, shower, access to laundry facilities and a listening ear. Initially the WBHS Sorops aim to help at least 10 young people.

After much discussion our latest group have decided that their Programme Action is two-fold. firstly to help the homeless by raising money for Nightstop and to put together ‘Starter Boxes’ , for pregnant teenagers.

Nightstop prevents homelessness through community hosting – providing a safety net to those forced to leave their home. Nightstop places young people in a safe and warm home for the night, provided by a vetted and approved volunteer. This prevents young people from sleeping rough, “sofa surfing”, or staying in unsuitable accommodation where they would be at risk of abuse. The use of spare rooms in a positive environment makes a huge difference to young people in crisis.
