Welcome to SI Weston-super-Mare, situated in a seaside resort, fashionable in Victorian times for its balmy sea air but now revived with a new pier and a modern promenade overlooking the Islands of Flat Holm and Steep Holm in the Bristol Channel. Situated in the SW of England we are part of the SW and CI region of the national organisation of SIGBI.
Our club was founded in 1939 by its sister club, SI Bristol. The objectives of our organisation remain the same with the modern vision of educating empowering and enabling women and girls alike. One of our key projects locally is the award winning Skirting Science initiative aimed at inspiring school girls to appreciate the opportunities in science orientated careers and consider their education options accordingly.
Our members come from many different walks of life; their interests and expertise cover a large spectrum of our society. We meet on the first and third Tuesdays of the month to discuss SI business and listen to speakers on varied topics. In common with all Soroptimist clubs we care first and foremost for the wellbeing of women and girls at home and abroad; our global activities are varied some of which are reported on our main web site. As a global organisation have our own Charities to help support these objectives. We participate and involve ourselves in a number of local projects in the community , support international endeavours as well enjoy having fun with a varied social programme. As part of a world wide organisation we petition for many causes , have a voice with UN and other NGOs and on a lighter note, have our own hotel facilities in London. Come and join us to find out more!
