SOROPTIMISTS LOBBY LOCAL MP TO SUPPORT MALALA
SOROPTIMISTS STAND WITH MALALA Weston Soroptimists were moved to take action when a resolution in support of Malala was passed at the Annual Conference of SIGBI (Soroptimist International of Great Britain and Ireland) last month. On Remembrance Sunday, Weston-super-Mare Soroptimists handed a letter to John Penrose urging him to support any measures aimed at persuading the Pakistani Government to bring to justice the gunmen who shot Malala Yousafzai and to enable girls in Pakistan to have full and unimpeded access to education. On receiving the letter John Penrose said “I’m very happy to accept this letter from Weston Soroptimists, and I’ll take it to the Foreign Secretary personally. Soroptimists also signed the petition which Gordon Brown, UN Education Envoy, delivered to the President of Pakistan on Saturday, 10th November, exactly one month after Malala was shot.
