7th December 2022 On Day 12 of #16DaysOfActivismAgainstGenderBasedViolence soroptimist elves are supporting women who often put others first and bear the brunt of stress and worry about feeding their families. #SIWeybridge & District #soroptimists continue to #OrangeTheWorld today delivering elf hats filled with treats for Mum so youngsters have something to give “From Santa for Mum” #The team at #waltonhershamfb gave us a jolly welcome (thank you all) they plan to sell the lovely artist cards donated by one of our friends at #SILiverpool at a forthcoming food fair and were appreciative of last months sanitary donations too! On Thursday we were in full flow planning the club UN Women #Orangetheworld and #16days activities. Our coffee morning on 25th will generate £££ funding for #domesticabuse services our partner charity. Every £ we earn to £1000 will be match funded by a generous sponsor so don’t delay. Many people are struggling to make ends meet and relying on  #waltonhershamfoodbank for essentials. #ElmbridgeSoroptimists provide support to the foodbank @WaltonHershamfb raising funds at events and by donations. This funds ASDA vouchers, Easter eggs, suntan lotion and food items. This December we will supply Elf Hats filled with items for the Mums and women who seldom think of themselves.  If you would like to buy a elf hat for £1 from Poundland and fill it with non-alcoholic/non perishable new items suitable for women you can donate them to a local Soroptimist in Weybridge, Molesey or Kingswood before December 26th, we will sew them with a festive flourish and add any message you attach in readiness for delivery. North Surrey Domestic Abuse Service benefits from Soroptimists on UN Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

Weybridge and District #Soroptimists are hosting a Coffee Morning on 25th November to #Orangetheworld at the start of the annual United Nations #16days of activism which highlight the violence, discrimination, health damage and ethnic issues women face around the globe. North Surrey Domestic Abuse Service part of Citizens Advice Elmbridge West (#NSDAS.org) are delighted to have the welcome financial help, the funding supplements income allowing Services, Outreach and wider initiatives in the community in #Elmbridge.  Soroptimists already have a generous donor who is matching every £ raised, additional donors are expected, we hope to raise £3000 and invite guests to attend, sponsorship, donations  and items we can sell.The Coffee Morning will be held in Molesey from 11am to 1.30pm on 25th November the 2022 UN Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. In July Dorothy Clark welcomed Caroline Mushens to the Club. Caroline lives in Kingswood; married to David she was introduced to the club by a current member they were at school together and have been friends for over 50 years. Caroline has had a successful career in insurance working in the corporate sector and latterly running her own successful business. Caroline has a wealth of business expertise alongside time spent in education and the charity sector. She has a busy life with grandchildren, roles in the education sector and involvement with her industry. Ann will mentor Caroline as she joins our Soroptimist ranks. This month October SIW&D were delighted to welcome new member Mary Lewis to the Club; Mary Lodge a founding member provided a warm Soroptimist welcome. On Wednesday October 19th 2022 soroptimist members from several SI clubs, fellow educators and dear friends joined Dorothy’s husband Dennis and her family at the Funeral Service and Celebration of Life for Dorothy a Founding Member and President of SI Weybridge & District. The church St. Peter’s in Hersham, Surrey was filled beyond capacity as her family and dear friends sparkled in colourful outfits to bid farewell and celebrate Dorothy’s remarkable life.  Dorothy’s family have released a video live link of the service. @ElmbridgeSoroptimists step up making >£1100 to accelerate diagnosis & awareness of ovarian cancer

On Saturday 8th October 3 Soroptimists from SI Weybridge & District were joined by 2 local friends to walk the 10th annual National #TargetOvarianCancer Walk/Run 2022. The cancer supports research, raises awareness of the cancer symptoms and educates healthcare professionals in diagnosis of what is a silent and killer disease of women in middle and later years.  Over 1000 walkers registered for the Walk/run mostly walking at Queen Elizabeth Park, London or again in November in Belfast or local to their homes. The charity hoped to achieve £250,000 in donations. Even with over 1000 people walking it was a challenging target sum. @Weybridgesoroptimists and friends set off at 10am walking from Hampton Court Bridge to Kingston through Home Park, onward to Teddington Lock and across the lock to Bushy Park, a 10km course. With a few scenic pauses, a chance meet with the @Hamptoncourtpalace carthorses
