Soroptimist International - Whitstable and District

Soroptimist International of Whitstable is part of a worldwide organisation of women, which is linked to the United Nations.

Welcome to SI Whitstable & District

Are you looking for a local women’s club with international influence? Find out more about Soroptimist International and our club for Whitstable, Herne Bay, Faversham and surrounding villages.

Soroptimist International is a global organisation of women working to transform the lives of women and girls worldwide. We hold consultative rights at the UN and are recognised as a Non-Governmental organisation representing women.

Members have been making a difference to the lives of women and girls locally, nationally and internationally since 1921. This is achieved through Programme Action projects focused on our vision, mission and principles: education, economic empowerment, eliminating violence against women, food security and health, environmental  sustainability and advocacy.

Soroptimist clubs now exist all over the world and although we are a fairly new club, our membership has grown from 17 to 22 since we established in 2023.  We are a local club supporting women and girls and promoting friendship, fun and fulfilment within the umbrella of an international organisation.

Membership of our club will give an opportunity to:

  • Take part in local, national and international projects, raising funds to support women and girls alongside other like minded women
  • Lobby, influence and make a difference for women at home and abroad
  • Attend international and national conferences, meeting women from different countries and cultures
  • Access Soroptimist magazines, websites and databases

Friendship is an important part of our club and we plan monthly social suppers in local restaurants as well as summer and Christmas bring and share supper celebrations.

We also celebrate significant dates across the year for example International Women’s Day, International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Remembrance Sunday.

A good example of this is an International Women’s Day dance we held on March 8th 2024 and 2025. Over 90 guests were entertained by the fabulous Project F, a funky band that had everyone dancing the night away. As well as having lots of fun, we raised over £800 in 2024 and £1000 in 2025 for our charities.
