Our Young Achiever

In September 2013 the Soroptimists International of Wigan launched a search for young achievers in the Borough to mark the 70th anniversary of the charter of the Club

We wanted to find a young person who set an example of commitment or courage, or some one who had a similar outlook to Soroptimist international – of inspiring action transforming lives.

The age range for nominees required  was 11 – 26 years who were to be members of the Guides or Senior Section Guide units in our catchment area – Haigh and Aspull, Shevington, Springfield, Standish, Wigan North, Wigan Central, Worsley Mesnes, Ince, Hindley, Pemberton, Ashton and Golborne.

The search ended in November as we were introduced to Hannah Ward a 14 year old who has for the greater part of her life served the needs of children in the Borough through her dedication to the Charity Butterflies. In addition to this she has a role as a carer within her family.

The Mayor of Wigan Borough Cllr Whiteside and the Mayors’s Consort presented the Award in the Mayors Parlor.. Hannah’s Mum, Granddad, President of SI Wigan and members attended the function.
