Soroptimist International celebrates it’s 100th Birthday in 2021.
Soroptimist International Leigh and Soroptimist International Wigan Clubs are planning to jointly plant 100 trees within the Borough, in partnership with Wigan based Lancashire Wildlife Trust. The tree planting will take place in late Autumn in Bickershaw Country Park.
Contact has been made with Bickershaw CE Primary School asking children to design a logo of birds and trees which will form a permanent sign for the proposed small wooded copse. The Forestry Commission has encouraged local community groups to plant trees in urban areas in order to enhance the green spaces we have. Providing safe habitats for birds and other wildlife and importantly for the beneficial effects on health and wellbeing of the population.
It is hoped that the Soroptimist Centenary Banner of “Bright Past- Brilliant Future” will not only highlight the many International, national and local projects undertaken by Soroptimists in the last 100 years, but by involving young people in the tree planting initiative also look to the future.
