At the 2016 Award Evening in September Wigan Soroptimists welcomed representatives of some of the Charities supported by money raised during the 2015-2016 year. Cheques were given to Mary’s Meals (the main charity of last year’s President), FOMO, Wigan and Leigh Hospice, DIAS, and Baynards Zambia Trust.The evening was very enjoyable, members and friends learnt more about the work of the charities and how the money raised will be used.      

      On July 23rd the annual Summer Meal was held with members of SI Wigan and and friends celebrating another successful year for friendship and service. It was a fun relaxed evening with good food and company.

A celebration lunch was held on Sunday June 12th at Statham Lodge, Lymm to honour SIGBI Federation President Margaret Emsley. The occasion was very well attended with speeches from Ann Garvie  Soroptimist International President 2013-2015 and Regional President Sandy Tayor. It was a wonderful day with a delicious lunch and lively entertainment from a local choir.

On May 6th 2016 Soroptimist International of Wigan held the 75th Charter Dinner at Haigh Hall and celebrated the installation of the new President Mrs Elaine Tyrrell. This was a very special occasion with many guests including the Mayor of Wigan Borough Sue Loudon and many friends from South Lancashire Soroptimist Clubs. The occasion was honored by the presence of SIGBI Federation President Dr Margaret Emsley who gave an inspirational speech about the history Soroptimism in Wigan and the important role of women in science.       Wigan Rotary President Mr Keith Trencher proposed the toast to Soroptimist International and the response was given by Sandra Taylor Regional President, Soroptimist International of South Lancashire

Members of SI Wigan  knitted lots of Easter chicks that Wigan & Leigh Hospice filled with chocolate eggs and sold to raise money for their funds.

On March 12th 2016 Soroptimist International (SI) Wigan held the annual Charity Ball at the DW Stadium Wigan. The theme for the evening was shades of blue and the room was decorated to reflect this. Members, friends and guests had a champagne reception, dinner and dancing until the early hours, the MC for the evening was Mr Dave Guest from BBC North West Tonight. Guests included staff and students from Winstanley Sixth Form College who are also supporting the Mary’s Meals Charity. The event included an auction and raffle which was supported by local business and members. The evening raised money for Wigan & Leigh Hospice,the Presidents charity Mary’s Meals and other charities supported by SI Wigan.
