November 2025 – Bridge – Halloween – Friendship – Street Angels – Remembrance

Remembrance Day

President Jennie laid our wreath a the Cenotaph during the Remembrance Day ceremony.  Remembering especially this year the women who  worked in the Auxiliary Territorial Service and on the Home Front during World War II.

Tea for Two? No, Tea for Fifty-Two!

A full pack of ace players came for bridge and tea at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Pyrford on 15 November 2025.

Thanks to those brilliant bridge-players and the tremendous Soroptimist tea-makers, the event raised £750, split between two local charities: LinkAble in Woking and Women’s. Support Centre

We are delighted our donation to the Women’s Support Centre was increased by matched funding and used to give help directly to women on their journey through life.

Halloween and Bonfire Night

The scariness of Halloween at the very end of October…and then November always starts with a bang: fireworks around Bonfire Night.  We were pleased to talk to the ladies at Shifa in Woking about the origins and history of both these events.  And we didn’t forget to offer the seasonal treats of parkin and soul cakes.

Friendship

Friendship is a very important part of the Soroptimist movement.  Some of our members had a great day with the Soroptimists of Sherborne and Yeovil  in late October.  We look forward to welcoming them to Woking early in 2026.  Long may the friendship continue!

Woking Street Angels

Mark Potter, Chairman of Woking Street Angels was our November speaker

This little-known charity is there to ensure that people experiencing Woking’s weekend night-life remain safe.
Angels – ordinary citizens – are there as a calming presence and to help people in need.
Find out more here – and how you can help – here
We were pleased to learn that following the talk, and acting upon a suggestion from one of our members, West Byfleet Golf Club donated £1,000 to Woking Street Angels.
