8 – International Literacy Day – Did you know that in 2020
- 773 million adults and young people lack basic literacy skills;
- 617 million children and adolescents are not achieving minimum proficiency levels in reading and mathematics;
- During the initial phase of the pandemic, the closing of schools disrupted the education of 62.3 per cent of students across the world;
- Adult literacy and education were left out of the first plans to keep education going during the pandemic. So many youths and adults with no or low literacy skills have had little access to life-saving information.

Our Club is part of the worldwide network of Soroptimist International. This non-political organisation takes a firm stance on a number of subjects relating to women and girls (more at National Federation, SIGBI).
SI Woking & District cooperates with the other clubs in the Southern Region of Soroptimist International of Great Britain & Northern Ireland, and has Friendship Links with the Soroptimist Clubs of SI Durban and SI Pretoria Tshwane in South Africa.
