Climate Change
Action to limit climate change is one of the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. We all now understand the need to act to ensure a safer future for our children and grandchildren. Woking, like many other other towns, has declared a climate emergency.
The Climate Action Group networks with local climate change groups and organisations. Its members collect and disseminate information among all Club members and stimulates discussion and action on the part of all Club members.
We marked May Walking month 2024 with a walk in the Woking flood relief area.
June 2025 announcement: The Soroptimist International Foundation with Soroptimist International Africa Federation is launching the ‘Greening Our Horizons’ project in Kenya. This initiative empowers women and girls through tree planting, environmental education and sustainable farming practices. Together, we’re taking action to combat climate change and support thriving communities. More here. Members of SI Woking contributed to the Soroptimist International Foundation in December 2024.
Microfinance
The Microfinance Group makes use of Club funds to support small projects abroad. Entrepreneurs are given small loans which they repay over time.
SI Woking has made its first loans, which are already being repaid.
In September 2025, SI Woking gave a grant of £30 to enable a woman in India to buy a less-polluting cookstove.
Education
This group was established in 2025 to develop ways of supporting the education of girls.
It follows on from the successful internships in Africa that were supported for several years by SI Woking
