Where Connections Become Collaborations
What happens when you bring together a room full of community-minded women? Connections are made, ideas are shared and new possibilities begin to emerge.
That was certainly the experience at Soroptimist International Cirencester and District’s Open Evening on 9 September, themed Communication, Collaboration and Community.
Women from a wide range of local community groups, organisations and initiatives joined Soroptimists for an evening of conversation, networking and friendship. With so many different interests and experiences represented, there was plenty to talk about – and plenty of opportunity to discover what others are doing across our community.
“I think we filled a local need here – it was fantastic to see so many people mingling, swapping and sharing experiences.”
The evening also provided an opportunity to find out more about the work of Cirencester and District Soroptimists. Elizabeth spoke about the club’s connection with the Dorothy Minnis Trust, while Jill explained Soroptimist Programme Action and the organisation’s links with the United Nations. Shirley demonstrated our new website directory and asked for imput from the room. Lesley introduced the club’s new Young Writers’ Short Story Competition, encouraging young people to celebrate the unheard voices of women and girls from the past. Penny gave an overview of Soroptimist International of Great Britain and Ireland (SIGBI) and the wider Soroptimist movement.
Avril introduced Cath, representing Cirencester’s COG, who explained the organisation’s mission and its involvement in the local community. COG is one of many organisations working to support children and families locally, reflecting the breadth of community activity across Cirencester.
A networking table provided a place for guests to leave leaflets and business cards, creating another opportunity to share information and “put a face to the name.”
