Soroptimist International of Croydon and District  actively supports the use of fair trade coffee, tea and chocolate and its use in the jewellery industry.

Soroptimist international was instrumental in promoting Scotland as a fair trade country and Sevenoaks town as a fair trade town. Many of its members are involved in churchs and schools with their  campaigns to become fair trade  and raise awareness.

Fair trade continues to under pin all we do and and is an integral part of our thinking and we actively support free trade week by means of talks, tasting evenings and coffee mornings.

Fair trade is more than a luxury it is a way of  life bringing Education and health care to the deprived by means of its premium and raising living standards and human and  womens rights to work in good conditions for a fair wage.

Last year we celebrated 40 years of the Traidcraft Family at Grace & Sue’s ‘annual Big Fairtrade Brew’. Raising money and enjoying a fantastic array of delicious home-made cakes and accompanying Fairtrade coffee, tea and hot chocolate. The Fairtrade theme this year is to work with local producers in order to get more of the women, who are involved in the production of the food, to have more ownership of the land and plants, as very often they do not own these and will not get all the benefits for their hard work.
