The Great Tapestry of Scotland

SI Edinburgh are very proud to have been involved with the national project, instigated by author Alexander McCall Smith and inspired by the Prestonpans Tapestry.

The tapestry was designed for significant periods of Scottish history,  and our panel particularly the part played by women;  each panel was distributed to groups of stitchers around Scotland.

The SI Edinburgh members responsible in the main for completing this piece of work were Winifred Keeves, Edith Elliot, Jane Green, Isabel Smith and Clephane Hume.

Our panel depicts ‘Women get the Vote’ and features Suffragettes of Scotland with the Soroptimist International GBI logo in a smaller corner panel.

The whole work has been displayed at the Scottish Parliament and will then start on a world tour.  A book has been published to accompany this achievement.
