A group of Soroptimists and friends had Sunday lunch at The Clink. The food was delicious and all prepared from scratch. The service also was excellent. We had the concept of The Clink Restaurant explained to us and told of its success in helping to reduce reoffending. It is certainly an outing to be repeated!
We are delighted that Tracy Bullock, currently CEO of Mid Cheshire NHS Foundation Trust is speaking at our 70th Anniversary Conference. We are looking forward to hearing her story of success as a woman in the health world, where there are many, many women employed, but disproportionately less women in senior roles and in professions dominated by men. Let’s look at the facts – 77 % of the NHS workforce are women however just 47 % of very senior manager roles in the NHS are held by women. 54% of doctors in training are women, but only 36% of consultants are women. It has been tough for women to qualify as doctors – it’s taken quite a while for even Dr Who to be a woman, but the first woman to qualify as a doctor in Britain, Elizabeth Garrett Anderson had to overcome legal barriers as well
Approximately 25 members and their friends gathered on Friday 15th February 2019 for a coffee morning to raise money for Target Ovarian Cancer. We enjoyed good company, delicious cake, beautiful sunshine and a super raffle. We raised £231!! Thanks to all who came to support this very worthy cause. Thanks to everyone who helped, with the biggest thank you to Carole for hosting the event.
Come to Soroptimists Nantwich and District 70th Anniversary Conference 1st June 2019 Nantwich and District Soroptimists Club is 70 years old this year and we are holding an anniversary conference to bring to life our message that we are women inspiring action and transforming the lives and status of women and girls through education, empowerment and enabling opportunities. We have come some way since the early days when members tended to be the proprietors of local businesses or women involved in local Council work, or schoolteachers and over the years we have had members who were police officers, chemists, pharmacists, a milliner, a farmer, hairdresser, in addition to representatives from many aspects of teaching, health care and the business world. In fact, we are a very diverse group of women from all walks and stages of life. We will hear more about our members,
Modern Slavery Event in Nantwich Town Centre 13 October 2018: Purple Teardrop Day An Awareness Raising Event was held in Nantwich for Modern Day Anti-Slavery on Saturday 13th October by Nantwich & District Soroptimists. This is the 6th year the group has been holding an event. We were support by our Mayor David Marren. Paul Miller from Libre Solutions also attended. After talking with our President Mrs Nancy Lowe, they thanked us for our work. We held a coffee morning and had a tombola where all the prizes were wrapped in tissue paper so the prize was hidden, as Modern Slavery is a hidden problem. The event took place as part of the wider Purple Teardrop Campaign aimed at raising awareness of Modern Day Slavery.
