Soroptimist International of Poona is part of a worldwide organisation of women, which is linked to the United Nations.

Welcome to SI Poona

The Soroptimist International Club of Poona was chartered with SIGBI in April 1991. We are a volunteer service organisation for women in business, management and the professions. We are part of Soroptimist International, the world’s largest classified service organisation for executive and professional women, a Global voice for women. It uses Awareness, Advocacy and Action to bring about change in the lives of women and girls worldwide. The heart of the Soroptimist’s mission is “to make a difference” through volunteer services to the community. In India we have fifteen clubs working in the fields of Health, Education, Environment and International Goodwill and Understanding, all working for the welfare of women and children.

In our organisation, our main thrust for project work has been in the area of Girls Education and Women’s Health. Health and Nutrition awareness in backward areas and Girl Child Safety training are also some of our current activities.

Our members are women drawn from different professions like IT, Medicine, Engineering, Education, Industry, Management, Social Work, Scientific Research.

Our main thrust for project work has been in the area of Girls Education and Women’s Health in addition to taking up work in the SIGBI Quadrennium Project areas like AIDS awareness and Cancer screening. We have also taken up our national projects like ‘Let Me Bloom’ ‘Fistful of Grain’ and ‘Green Canopy’ in the fields of Nutrition and Environment respectively.
