Knitting for Premature Babies!

First photo shows SI Glasgow City’s donation of 61 hand knitted items to Princess Royal Maternity, 21 07 2025; 31 hats, 15 cardigans, 9 pairs bootees and 6 blankets.

Donation to Refuweegee!

Second photo shows SI Glasgow City Joint PA Officers, Caroline and Liz, donating items to Refuweegee, which provides welcome and emergency support packs to forcibly displaced people arriving in Glasgow, 6 10 2025.  (Glaswegians are known locally as Weegies!)

Third photo shows SI Glasgow City Joint President Margaret, and Club member Gwen handing over pyjamas to Tomorrow’s Women Glasgow, (TWG), Team Lead Claire & Stacey from Martha’s Mummies.  This donation was supported by SI Paisley.

TWG is a multi-agency stop shop for women coming out of the Criminal Justice System.  Over the last 3 months SI Glasgow City members have provided mindfulness colouring books, items for emergency food packs, and pyjamas.

Blankets made from knitted squares!

Fourth photo shows blanket made from 30 knitted squares, one of three blankets, total 90 knitted squares.  the blankets will be donated to needy families, by SI Dunfermline.

The 90 knitted squares completes a 90 for 90 challenge celebrating the 90th Anniversary of SI SN/S Regions, June, 2026.

Third photo shows SI Dunfermline members in Tesco giving out information on HPV vaccination,  and staying safe on-line.  Over the lunch hour they met many schoolchildren, most of whom were interested, 19 09 2025.

Community SDG 3:
Helping the World to See!

Fourth photo shows 30 pairs of used spectacles, part of a collection of 127 received at SI Hamilton Club Lunch meeting, 11 09 2025.  The used spectacles collected by SI Hamilton members are given to Mackie Opticians, 48 Main Street, Bothwell G71 8EX, for eventual re-use in eye camps in Cambodia & India.  Before being sent to Cambodia & India, in advance of the eye camps, the used spectacles are sent to HMP Barlinnie’s “Right to Sight” project, where prisoners sort and grade the used spectacles.

Cervical Screening Advice!

Low uptake group found within Lanarkshire:

While discussing this at SI Hamilton Business Meeting on 23 10 2025, member Morag mentioned that a low uptake of cervical screening had been found in the large diverse South Asian population within Lanarkshire, for cultural reasons. (Local newspaper article June 2025).

Action taken!

By June 2025, NHS Lanarkshire had made films, podcasts to reach out to this group.  These are available in Arabic, & Urdu, as well as English.   To view the films and advice click here; for additional advice click here. Lanarkshire Central Mosque has been helpful in arranging to show the films.

Educate to Lead Award 2025!

First & Second photos show SI Kirkcaldy Educate to Lead Award presentation to Grace, Viewforth High School pupil, another worthy winner, 6 07 2025.

The Educate to Lead Award is given to a pupil, chosen by staff, to a girl in one of the four High Schools in rotation.  Honorary member, Helma, sponsors the Award.
