On Saturday 25 June, the first face to face Regional meeting chaired by SISEE President Yvonne Freeman was held. It was at our new venue at Holiday Inn, Wrotham.
Mike Pitney from Kent Fire and Rescue Service and Fire Aid was the main speaker. He talked about the humanitarian work they have been doing in Ukraine and Poland. This work has had significant impact following the Russian invasion of Ukraine on 24 February. 3 convoys of more than 60 decommissioned fire engines and fire equipment have been sent over to Poland for firefighters in Ukraine.
Soroptimists knitted trauma bears to go on the third convoy in May. We met the challenge set for us which was appreciated.
We wore Orange as it was 25th of the month. This was in support to ‘End Violence Against Women’.
Five clubs, SI Thanet, SI Eastbourne, SI Folkestone, SI Medway and Maidstone and SI Lewes presented Good News on their projects. Excellent work is being done to improve the lives of women and girls and on climate change.
Bottle tops and blister packs were collected. Homemade pickles and jams were on sale with proceeds going to Soroptimist charities.
