South Lancashire Soroptimists are celebrating their successful regional conference.
“Woman supporting Women : together we can!”. This was the theme of the Region’s 2022 conference in Liverpool. After the ‘Covid years’ this was a welcome opportunity to get together.
The speakers offered a wide range of approaches to the main theme. Josephine Butler’s relentless support for marginalised women in the 19th century linked to the 21st century fight against human trafficking.
Physical and mental well-being came under the spotlight. Sessions looked at domestic violence, NHS staff during the pandemic and predatory marriage. Picking dandelion petals for syrup? This led to thoughts on the healing effect of the natural world .
From corporate gender-based challenges of policing to personal life-enhancing choices within a family – the conference programme was full and fascinating.
The Region raffled a fine ‘Friendship Star’ quilt in aid of SIGBI’s Diamond Education Grant. Members of SI Crosby made it, with assistance from an experienced quilter.
The day ended on a joyous (and, for some, a dancing) note, thanks to the Mersey Voices Choir.
In closing the conference President Dorcas was fulsome in her praise for her committee and her thanks to the delegates for supporting the event. She looked forward to attending the 2023 conference, being organised by our neighbouring Region, North West England & the Isle of Man.
