Positive Power

Guest speaker at South Lancashire Soroptimists’ autumn meeting was Babs Bray. Here theme: ‘My five powers of Staying Positive’.

Babs has written a very personal book about positivity. Fit and healthy, she was shocked to be diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2021. During treatment she started blogging – seeking to record the positive aspects. The blogs led to her book ‘Chemo and Courage : the power of staying positive’.

Babs’ personal five anchors are her faith, books and podcasts that engage and inspire, personal contacts and conversations, recording something (however small) to be grateful for each day, and always counteracting negativity with the simple thought “but …”. An exuberant speaker, Babs’ props included a soft ball and a pair of fluorescent specs.

The Soroptimists were left in no doubt that Babs is passionate to encourage everyone to take advantage of all cancer screening opportunities. Her message centres on facing screening and treatment – and life – without fear.
