Hello from Maudie and Gill-newly in post as joint presidents of Soroptimist International of Stafford. We feel very honoured to have been accepted so well by all members and feel that together we will do great things! This year, due to the pandemic, we moved away from the traditional “take over” month usually in April and we took up our posts on 20th October. Our previous president Katie, kindly agreed to continue for a few more months to allow the club as a whole to become accustomed to the different ways of working due to the restrictions of the pandemic! Our tenure will last till April 2022 – seems a long way off but already, at the time of writing, a month has passed!
We are concentrating on Sustainability – not just of the environment but also of ourselves! These are trying times for all of us whatever our personal circumstances and as ex nurses, we both feel passionately that it is essential that we look after ourselves and share kindness especially towards those who are on their own or suffering for whatever reason due to this very unusual time we are living in. We have had to rethink our programme and many of our speakers are willing to use Zoom. Our members are embracing the new technology and we feel that we can only move forward from now on. We have a very varied set of speakers and so far we have kicked off with a talk from Nigel Evans of Roots Larder (reducing waste) followed by Pam Cartwright who talked about the importance of good nutrition and sleep. We will also be utilising some of the expertise of our club members.
We are having to find innovative ways of keeping our club vibrant and current – never let it be said that Soroptimists are not entrepreneurial!! Not being able to physically meet will not dampen our spirits or hinder us to do what we do best-standing up for women and girls, supporting our members and our local, national and international communities!

Joint Presidents SI Stafford.
