President’s Message

A Message from Katie Taylor, President of SI Stafford 2019 – 2020

Welcome to the Soroptimist Club of Stafford webpage – I hope you enjoy looking through the information and learning a little of what Soroptimism is about.  If you want to learn more and would like to attend one of our meetings, please contact us via sistafford1939@gmail.com

I appreciate the members trust in electing me as the President of the Soroptimist Club of Stafford for 2019 / 20.  I am looking forward to members working together to make a difference to the lives of women and girls and to raise awareness of Soroptimism.

I joined Soroptimist International in 2014 because I was looking for an interest outside a busy working life that chimed with my personal wish to support women and girls achieve their potential whatever their start in life and wherever they are in the world.  Supporting to achieve what an individual wants to achieve is important; as someone once said to me, “no one else is the authority on your potential” so we cannot dictate but we can (and do) enable, encourage and empower and I am proud to be part of an international organisation that continues to make a difference to the lives of many and does that in the consultative, supportive and cohesive way that brings results.

SI Stafford is a vibrant, friendly club with 31 members drawn from many professions and some equally active in retirement, but we all have the common desire to make a difference through our Programme Action work.

I am a radiographer by training and have worked for many years in both the NHS and independent sectors; I currently hold a national role in a large independent provider organisation so am adding time management to my skill set!!

The club has a strong Development Plan and I look forward to continuing to build on the tremendous work Eileen and her team has done on this plan while introducing some new thoughts and projects with the backing of the club.

My goals for the year are:

  • to raise awareness of Soroptimism locally and develop the club in line with the agreed Plan
  • to support woman and girls in the local area with our Programme Action work
  • to support our International Project, ‘Swim to Save a Life’ and help reduce the number of girls drowning in Zanzibar
  • to ensure SI Stafford plays its part in the wider Soroptimist movement

My charities for the year will be supporting Care Leavers locally and internationally, Swim to Save a Life, (The Panje Project) Zanzibar.

I know we will continue to value  and enjoy the friendships we have and will have fun during the year.

Katie
