We aim to Make a Difference!

President Sue

I wish to thank Stockton Soroptimists for allowing me to serve as President for the coming year. I am sure you would agree, that 2020 is turning out to be quite an extraordinary year and an unusual start to my presidency! To mark the beginning of the new Soroptimist year, I was looking forward to an official handover of the ceremonial chain from our past president Margaret; but that was not to be. In the meantime I have made my own paper chain in rainbow colours.

It is a year we will always remember and we all have a story about how the Covid-19 pandemic has affected us.  However, I am determined to remember this year in a positive way.    I have been humbled by the dedication of the NHS and all key workers. I look forward each Thursday to the ‘Clap For Our Carers’ event to pay tribute to all key workers in the UK. I have also embraced technology and have started to Zoom!

In its 60+ years Stockton Club has given service and support to many local and international charities.  I am therefore honoured to be given the opportunity to serve as president and you have my sincere assurance that I will be dedicated to the role and do my best at all times.  As we transition into a new Presidential year can I remind us of : Our mission to transform the lives and status of women and girls through education, empowerment and enabling opportunities.  Our visionwomen and girls will achieve their individual and collective potential, realise aspiration and have an equal voice in creating strong, peaceful communities worldwide.

We must always remember the less fortunate among us and the fact that life in abundance comes as a result of giving ourselves to others.  Stockton Soroptimists have been doing this for years and this is what we will seek to achieve in the coming year.

What does it mean to be a Soroptimist?

We want the best for women!

Sue Scott, President
