Members of SI Tamworth and guests had a very enjoyable International evening. The significance of the International Evening is a culmination of our year’s work in raising awareness of issues affecting women and girls locally, nationally and Internationally and also to distribute monies raised to the various charities and causes that we have supported during 2021 – 2022. This has been an unusual year as we have come out of the worldwide pandemic but we have continued to support our various causes and a number of the recipients were present at the evening.
President Linda warmly welcomed Christine Harris from Tamworth Wellbeing Cancer Support Centre ( www.tamworth-wellbeing-cancer-support.com ) who is a representative of the charity Madam President chose to support throughout her year.
An International charity members have supported for a number of years is Love the One. This was set up in India by Catherine Morris, daughter of Jan (a member of SI Tamworth) and Nigel Morris and her friend Mary, who were paediatricians in the UK. On their visits to the UK they have often come to our meetings and we have made a donation to their clinic. Their focus is on Health, Education and Child Care. All details can be found on their web site – www.lovetheone.org.
This year, through the generosity of a legacy left to us by a former member, we have sponsored a girl whose name is Kavya to support her to complete her education and have donated £300.00 and we propose to do this for the next three years.
Recipients from the following organisations received cheques on the night:- Tamworth Samaritans; Tamworth Hospitals League of Friends; Pathway Project; Number Eight/Home-Start Tamworth; Tamworth Talking Newspapers; St Giles Hospice; TAME Community First Responders; Uganda Bursary; Midlands Air Ambulance; Soroptimist International President’s Appeal – Opening Doors to a Bright Future; SIGBI Benevolent Fund
