Torquay & District SI were happy to sponsor Josie Crossley on her GOLD venture to Oman.
GOLD (Girlguiding Overseas Linked with Development) entails teams of young women from across the UK travelling to eight different countries across the world. Josie Crossley was luckily enough to be chosen to represent Girlguiding UK on the first year of GOLD in Oman. These sustainable projects last from three to five years and the aims differ from project to project according to the host country’s needs. GOLD Oman was primarily focusing on leadership skills, recruitment and informal education and involved delivering training on these topics to girls, young women and even headmistresses in four regions within Oman.
The GOLD team have grown as individuals and as a team during their three weeks in Oman. The evaluation on the final day of the project showed the aims and objectives of Year 1 had been accomplished. It also reinforced that the project has the full support from Oman Guides to go from strength to strength in the years ahead.
Josie’s GOLD journey was a life changing experience that she will never forget and has inspired her to show others the wealth of experiences to be gained from International Guiding.
