September 2023

Club meeting Monday, 18 September

We are pleased that club member Kathleen Lynch-Howard will be talking about personal experiences gained from volunteering at Sissinghurst. Kathleen notes that when most people think of Sissinghurst, they envisage a typically romantic and beautiful English garden.  Her talk will look beyond this received image to the unconventional and idiosyncratic lives of its creators, Vita Sackville-West and Harold Nicolson – their writing, lives and loves.

Movie Night in aid of AKT Thursday, 21 September

AKT supports LGBTQ+ young people aged 16-25 in the UK who are facing or experiencing homelessness or living in a hostile environment.

SITWD will be holding a movie night at

St John’s Yard, 66 St John’s Road, TN4 9PE

The movie will be The Greatest Showman, inspired by the legend and ambition of America’s original pop-culture impresario PT Barnum. This is an inspirational rags-to-riches tale of a brash dreamer who rose from nothing to prove that anything you can envision is possible and that everyone, no matter how invisible, has a stupendous story worthy of a world-class spectacle.

The room is booked from 7.oopm for those who want to order burgers and the movie will start at 7.30 pm.

Feel free to invite friends (the room capacity is 35). Please rsvp cat.mennell@gmail.com so we can manage numbers.

Donations to AKT on the night.

During the afternoon we will be selling handmade items, including bunting, headbands and other useful items. All funds raised will be donated to the AKT Trust which works with LQBTQ+ young people who are homeless or find themselves living in a hostile environment. Please come along and join us on 9 August at The Forum and support this fund-raising event.
