Angela, Jackie and Caroline travelled to Munich to visit Si Club Munich and establish a friendship link. After a presentation on the history of Tunbridge Club and their activities at the monthly meeting, accompanied with a fabulous dinner, Tunbridge Wells Soroptimists were settled into the homes of their host sisters.
On the Friday we met up again in front of Mary’s Column on Marienplatz and commenced a 3 hour walking tour of Munich with Sandemans New Munich, learning much about the history of Munich. Above is the view as you looked up from the exit of the underground.
After this, we were ready for lunch which was eaten at the Brasserie OskarMaria im Literaurhaus. Luckliy we still had a few of our Si Tunbridge Wells postcards with us and used them in this photograph.
In the afternoon we split into groups and visited a selection of places, art galleries and museums and markets.
Meeting together again in the evening for an Italian meal.
On Saturday, we had an amazing time experiencing the opening of the annual Oktoberfest with parades, dancing, whip cracking demonstrations and of course food and beer.
On the Sunday we attended the colourful Oktoberfest Costume and Rifleman’s Parade – with postcards!
Si Club Munich made us feel very welcome and presented us with a lovely bag to hold all our memories and contacts and provided us with a mass of literature so that we were fully equipped to explore Munich.
We would like to extend a warm thank you to President Prlf. Dr. Britta Salender and all of the Si Munich Club for their welcome, friendship and time and we look forward to establishing and maintaining our new Friendship link with them. Si Club Munich
