Save our Planet - Wow, it’s exhausting just thinking about this amazing effort from club member Rosemary and this has been going on since 1981 when she was first challenged to think about her use of the planets limited resources! Huge well done to Rosemary! Always trying to save our planet. REDUCE - to save our planet very short. warm water only, daily showers and today measured it to one inch of water in my small size bath. Use a  kitchen boiler water tap which is believed to cut the normal water  boiled by a household kettle by two thirds. reduce household fuel consumption drastically by having solar panels.....thus producing  our own electricity. I do washings and run dishwasher in daylight which means the light panels probably produce enough power to cover the electricity required - and at times we contribute the excess power that

Don't leave your rubbish on our beaches - you brought it so take it back home with you!! This World Environment Day, it’s Time for Nature. Time to reimagine our relationship with nature; and put it at the heart of our decision making. Surprisingly little litter on Whitley Bay beach & picnic areas but mainly because North Tyneside Council got there before me!  Despite some criticism many residents believe they do their best with the resources they have. Can you guess what the top three items of rubbish collected were? Wipes and tissues Cigarette ends Bottle tops What was uplifting were the many walkers etc who stopped to thank my efforts and chatting with other litter pickers - just a shame we have to do it after a wonderful sunny weekend.   Have you heard of  weekend hunger or BACKPACK BUDDIES? It’s a bag of easy to prepare food for primary school children, so club members filled 60+ bags for young children in postcode NE29. Thanks to Rebecca and her team at Voda, North Shields. What happens to those kids that get a free school meal during the school term – and her are the new words in our vocabulary – food poverty, holiday hunger, weekend hunger – well this is such an amazing charity and it helps as much as it can! Can you guess what we bought? From a previous fundraisng members were each given a category of food to buy; individual rice puddings, cartons of fresh orange juice, breakfast bars etc https://voda.org.uk/campaigns/backpack-buddies
