Masks around the World. During this last year, "the Soroptimist Sewing Sisters" from SI Barry & District have been kept very busy making masks. They have been supported in their efforts by a grant from Barry Town Council. To date almost £1,200 has been raised in donations for Dinas Powys Community Library and £3,160 for local health care charities.   Our Facemasks have been distributed not only to most parts of Great Britain but also to Singapore,Switzerland, Italy, Doha. German TV and ITV have also featured our masks on news items. In keeping with International President's Appeal - New Road to Equality Project - Making Masks, SI Barry & District have indeed gone global in 2020/21 and will continue for as long as the demand exists.

SI Fishguard Programme Action Pre Lockdown Just before corona virus ‘hit’ and pre lockdown, we managed to complete two PA challenges. Having raised funds at our Charter Lunch, last year, this Spring we had pledged a further £1000 for our local Fishguard Young Farmers Club, to help them rebuild their meeting hall. The YF club does a lot of voluntary support work in the community. We were able to give a further £1000 this year, £2000 in total. On a wet and windy day, members of our club met with representatives of the Young Farmers to hand over the donation. Even wet and blustery weather didn’t dampen their enthusiasm In spite of a few delays, we were eventually able to realise a partnership ambition to recognise the large number of families from other countries living in our area around Fishguard and Goodwick. Soroptimist Centenial 2021 How can Wales South celebrate this important year 2021? What better way to celebrate the first centenary of Soroptimists, to raise the profile of our Organisation and to help the environment than to #PlantTrees!   Let’s play our part in Wales South! Why should we do this? Following in the footsteps of our first Soroptimists, who lobbied to save the great Redwoods and established ‘The Redwood Grove’ in California, and in line with 1 of our 5 programme areas – Planet, the Centenary Tree Planting Project hopes to energise Soroptimist across the Federation to ‘Plant Trees for a Brilliant Future’.
