On March 12th 2016 Soroptimist International (SI) Wigan held the annual Charity Ball at the DW Stadium Wigan. The theme for the evening was shades of blue and the room was decorated to reflect this. Members, friends and guests had a champagne reception, dinner and dancing until the early hours, the MC for the evening was Mr Dave Guest from BBC North West Tonight. Guests included staff and students from Winstanley Sixth Form College who are also supporting the Mary’s Meals Charity. The event included an auction and raffle which was supported by local business and members. The evening raised money for Wigan & Leigh Hospice,the Presidents charity Mary’s Meals and other charities supported by SI Wigan.    

On March 8th 2016 International Women’s Day various events were held at Wigan Town Hall. In the morning SI Wigan and SI Leigh members were invited to attend a celebration of women’s achievements. A plaque was unveiled to Martha Hogg, in 1920 she was the first woman Councillor of Wigan.       SI Wigan members and other notable women at Afternoon Tea with the Mayor Sue Loudon on International Women’s Day 2016   I

SI Wigan held an Italian Meal at the Wheel Restaurant at Wigan & Leigh College in February. The food was prepared by the students and the food and service were first class, all the courses were on an Italian theme. £72 was raised on the night which will go to the President’s Charity Mary’s Meals.

On January 22nd SI Wigan held a Hot Pot Supper and Fun Quiz in Highfield. It was very well supported with all ages attending the food was very tasty and generous and the quiz challenging but fun, The evening was a great success and £470 was made for charities supported by SI Wigan on the night.Thank you to all who attended.

On December 14th 2015 members of SI Wigan and friends attended the Christmas meal at Haigh Hall ,it was a lovely evening with the Hall beautifully decorated for Christmas. The meal was followed by the quiz complied by SI Wigan member Joan Pye which was as challenging as usual but great fun. Money raised from the quiz and raffle will go towards the Presidents Charity Mary’s meals and SI Wigan’s chosen charities.

SI Wigan support the Brick Homeless Centre throughout the year, at Christmas members and friends donate shoe boxes with toiletries and small gifts.This year the total number of boxes donated was 53. The boxes are given out in the run up to Christmas to men, women or families.
