October 2022 – Your Sanctuary – Autism – Immigration – Women’s Support Centres – Period Dignity

Period Dignity

Period dignity in Surrey from Binti International in partnership with Surrey County Council!

Women and girls in Woking can get free period products from Woking Library.  The stand is just inside the door.

You can also donate period products there.

Women’s Support Centre

Women’s Support Centres help women in difficulty get back on track.  One form of help is art and artistic activity.  Often, a real talent for art comes out in the process.

The New Beginnings Awards give recognition to people who are working their way to a better life with the help of art.  You can see the fantastic results at the Lightbox from 26 October to 27 November 2022.   The Surrey Women’s Support Centre has organised this special exhibition.

Immigration

A very topical play about people seeking asylum in Britain will be staged by The Journeymen in Woking on 5 November 2022.  Details from Woking Debates.

Autism

Did you know that autistic girls are often diagnosed very late, if at all?  Alas, this is often the case.

Jo Dilworth, our inspiring October speaker, told us all about Appeer, an organisation that aims to help. Jo is CEO of this Community Interest Company that helps autistic girls, teens and women.   Based in Woking, but activities and programmes are arranged across Surrey.  More here  and on FB.

Your Sanctuary

“They won by a snuffle, they won by a nose – those pink pigs did their bit – but whichever one won…. Your Sanctuary romped home with the profit!”

SI Woking organised a fun evening for members, family and friends this month to raise funds for Your Sanctuary, which runs the Surrey refuge for the victims of domestic abuse.   The event raised over £750.

We thank the many unsung heroes who helped us get this great result.  A special thank you to Jane’s Cakes who provided great food and Kim our lovely MC, who was suitably dressed for the occasion.  Together they made a great evening perfect.
