October 2025 – Bridge Tea – Eikon Surrey – Knitting

Tea for Two? No, Tea for Fifty-Two!

A full pack of ace players came for bridge and tea at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Pyrford on 15 November 2025.

Thanks to those brilliant bridge-players and the tremendous Soroptimist tea-makers, the event raised £750, split between two local charities: Women’s Support Centre and LinkAble in Woking.

We are delighted to know that our donation – increased by some matched funding – will be used to give positive help directly to women on their journey through life.

Eikon – helping young people in Surrey

Our invited speaker this month was Deborah Oates, an Eikon Garden Clubs volunteers.  She gave us a lively and stimulating talk about local charity Eikon.

Deborah focused on the creating of the ‘Hope and Dreams’ garden created by young people in the grounds of Fullbrook School, Addlestone.

Supported by Eikon, young people created the garden.  Young people now find a connection with the garden and care for it.  In the process they discover themselves.

A success in so many ways!

Women ‘of Our Time’

Don’t miss the thought-provoking dinner service display at Watts Gallery.  Women in Send prison created the display about modern women who would interest Mary Watts.  See if you agree with their choices.  Until end November 2025.

Part of an art project to help women prisoners access the therapeutic power of art.

Knitting to help women in Ethiopia

This month we will send 20 blankets to Hamlin Fistula UK.  Knitted by Woking Soroptimists and friends, they will be given to women in hospital in Ethiopia.  These women have suffered injury during childbirth and need a repair operation.  The blankets are a great comfort during a difficult time.
