President’s Message

Jackie Mosedale, President, 2022/24

Why am I a Soroptimist?  I am proud to be a member of a worldwide organisation working to improve the lives of women and girls.  Yes, WE STAND UP FOR WOMEN!

As a global organisation, we take a neutral position on Party Politics and Sectarian Religion, which enables us to lobby for change.  With our Consultative status at the United Nations, we can raise issues of concern with global policy makers.

We are a service organisation but we recognise that sometimes raising funds can alleviate problems.

We have and will continue to strive to make the world a safer place for women and girls and strive to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls. Locally, we keep our ear to the ground so that when required, we can respond to the needs of women victims of abuse in practical ways and also those survivors who are moving on.

I have been fortunate to visit many of our overseas clubs and witness their project work first hand.  In developing countries, the problems are many and difficult with women having little recognition or value or equality. As a member, we may visit any Soroptimist Club throughout the world, developing friendships and international understanding and making some great friends.

Our Yeovil, Sherborne & Districts are a small but enthusiastic and energetic group, always willing to welcome new members to join us.  Our Vision & Mission is even more relevant today than when our organisation was established in 1921.  To be a Soroptimist,  you need  to be a woman who cares about women, at home and throughout the  world!
