In keeping with the Soroptimist objective to Educate, Empower and Enable women and girls to achieve their full potential, the Proposed SI Anaparima club has embarked on its first project ENOUGH!
ENOUGH seeks to Educate and Empower to Eliminate Violence Against Women. During the period February- March 2018 a group of 800 secondary school girls will be educated on five topics:
• Rape and Sexual Harassment
• Luring and Kidnapping
• Self Harm, Self Awareness and Healing
• Self Defense
• Physical Violence
The speakers include personnel from The Victim and Witness Support under the Ministry of National Security, Self Defense professionals, psychologists and personnel from the Trinidad & Tobago Police Service.
Our first session, held on February 20, 2018 at Naparima Girls High School, was well received by students and staff. This session focused on:
- Self Harm, Self Awareness and Self Healing – Presenter Ms. Jamila Bannister, Clinical Psychologist of the Childrens’ Authority.
- Self Defense – Presenter Mr. Jim Leung Chee, Martial Artist.
Our second session was held on February 27th, 2018 at Naparima Girls High School. The students received presentations on Rape and Sexual Harassment from Counselor, Ms. Antonia Mootoo and Developmental Pediatrician from the NWRHA, Ms. Natalie Dick.
