At the recent well attended AGM held in the Heronston Hotel outgoing President Barbara was very pleased to thank retiring member Barbara for all she has done for the Club over the many years of her membership, including organising and judging the Essay competition with another member which ran for many years.
Ten Club members met on the old stone bridge in Bridgend to celebrate International Women’s Day . Walking through town with our Soroptimist sashes we congregated at a local hostelry and enjoyed a very tasty lunch.
Over 30 Club members had an enjoyable evening at The Bear in Cowbridge. It was good to enjoy an evening of fun and friendship and to finish off with a quiz.
On a recent visit to family in Australia, club member Carys met up with members Chris, Audrey and Carol from Friendship club Moreton Bay Inc.
The Club decided again this year to support the Christmas Tree Festival held in St. Mary’s Nolton, Bridgend. All proceeds this year will go to Bridgend Womens’ Aid which SI Bridgend also supports. The photos show President Barbara and members Lily , Kathryn and Carys having just decorated the tree.
At a recent members’ evening new members Ruth and Alison gave the Club an insight into their work. Ruth is a lawyer specialising in health matters and Alison runs a website and workshops related to gift wrapping. It was a very enjoyable evening and President Barbara also welcomed new member Irene to the Club and photos were taken of several of our recent new members.
President Barbara and several Club members enjoyed the experience of the Conference at Gateshead. They were pleased to support Club member, Rayner as she was inaugurated into the post of Regional President, Wales South. Members were also very happy to meet Talat from SI Karachi and catch up with her news of Pakistan. For news of the conference https://sigbi.org/gateshead2013/
Club member, Freya, brought along her husband Steve to entertain members with the inspiring story of how they obtained the rights to Riley’s Toffee Rolls and are running a successful business making and selling them from their sweet shop in Bridgendhttp://www.ellarileysweets.com/
Several members attended a recent English Speaking Union garden Party at Fonmon Castle. The weather was glorious and the Club tombola stall raised £188 for the President’s charities.
