SI Bridgend’s “Contact the Elderly” group held a special tea party to celebrate the Charity’s 50th Birthday. Members and guests enjoyed a toast to the Charity and to the Club’s group. Everyone enjoyed a lovely tea and the guests went home with gifts of cake and Easter Eggs. The group attached to SI Bridgend has been running for some years now and over time has seen the passing of several of the guests and the arrival of new guests. All guests, without fail, say how much they enjoy their afternoons with the company of friends of their own age.

Dorian Elias, Kim Ann Williamson, Fiona Mactaggart MP, Sue Walker, Jenny Vince, Stephen Chapman Eight club members attended a very interesting and informative day in the Aberavon Beach Hotel. Members put on their “glad rags” to attend the Club’s New Year Dinner at The Bear Hotel in Cowbridge. Following a delicious meal and lots of chat , members had their memories tested with a Christmas Quiz provided by member Joy.
At their last business meeting members held a candlelightt vigil to remember the victims of the attack on the Army school in Peshawar, Pakistan.
Friendship Link Club Uusikaupunki send their best wishes to Bridgend. SI Uusikaupunki celebrate their 60th birthday this year.
At the last Club meeting members were privileged to listen to Eileen Younghusband talking about her work during World War 2 as a member of the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force. Eileen worked in the filter room of the radar operations room and also in Belgium tracking German V2 bombs. Her story is both inspirational and sobering. Bridgend members presenting Talat with the Club donation President Cathie, Past Regional President Rayner and other Club members had a good time at Conference. They enjoyed meeting up with Talat from Friendship Club SI Karachi and being able to present her with money raised to help fund a Solar Project in Pakistan.
President Cathie and Secretary Debbie present a cheque to the Air Ambulance after completing the London to Brighton walk. The walk is a non-stop endurance walk from Richmond Park, London to Brighton Racecourse. Debbie completed the walk in 28 hours hours and Cathie in 33 1/2 hours. Well done to both Cathie and Debbie.
