SI Bridgend’s “Contact the Elderly” group held a special tea party to celebrate the Charity’s 50th Birthday. Members and guests enjoyed a toast to the Charity and to the Club’s group. Everyone enjoyed a lovely tea and the guests went home with gifts of cake and Easter Eggs. The group attached to SI Bridgend has been running for some years now and over time has seen the passing of several of the guests and the arrival of new guests.  All guests, without fail, say how much they enjoy their afternoons with the  company of friends of their own age.

At the last Club meeting members were privileged to listen to Eileen Younghusband talking about her work during World War 2 as a member of the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force. Eileen worked in the filter room of the radar operations room and also in Belgium tracking German V2 bombs. Her story is both inspirational and sobering. After the meeting she very kindly signed copies of her books which were purchased by members. If you would like to learn more check out Eileen’s website http://onewomanswar.wordpress.com/
