Soroptimists focus on transforming the lives of women and girls, locally, nationally, internationally and globally through education, empowerment and enabling initiatives across five areas:

  • Access to learning opportunities
  • Economic empowerment and employment
  • Ending of violence and participation in conflict resolution
  • Ensuring food security and access to health care
  • Environmental sustainability

We call this work “Programme Action”

The projects listed below include some of the local and international issues we research and support

SI Chesterfield and District:

The Elm Foundation (formerly Derbyshire Women’s Aid)

http://www.theelmfoundation.org.uk

Every year we supply food hampers for Christmas to the three refuges in our area. Members supply furniture and household items to support the women when they move into their own property. Toys and books are also provided for the children.

Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline

For the last few years the Club has paid for a child to visit England for several weeks. We also donate clothing, toiletries, stationery and other much needed http://www.ccll.org.uk

Fairplay

Fairplay is a registered Chesterfield charity giving support to children and young people with life limiting illnesses and additional needs. Their families are also given support. Each year we organise a coffee morning for parents who are caring for these young people. This is kindly sponsored by Stephensons Tea and Coffee House.

We have also begun to contribute to an annual trip which is organised by Fairplay for the children and young people.

Peace Garden School in Nepal

We have supported this school for the past two years through Steve Kenyon who visits with Sheffield schoolchildren each year. So far we have contributed to the building of a toilet block for women and girls and to a new water sanitation unit. Our support will continue.
