Soroptimists focus on transforming the lives of women and girls, locally, nationally, internationally and globally through education, empowerment and enabling initiatives across five areas:
- Access to learning opportunities
- Economic empowerment and employment
- Ending of violence and participation in conflict resolution
- Ensuring food security and access to health care
- Environmental sustainability
We call this work “Programme Action”
The projects listed below include some of the local and international issues we research and support in
SI Chesterfield and District:
Derbyshire Women’s Aid
Every year we supply food hampers for Christmas to the three refuges in our area. Members supply furniture and household items to support the women when they move into their own property. Toys and books are also provided for the children.
Each year we take young people who are caring for family members on a summer outing to Lea Green Activity Centre. Indoor and outdoor activities are included as well as a meal.
This is a regular club commitment which gives the young people a much needed break from their responsibilities.
Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline
For the last few years the Club has paid for a child to visit England for several weeks. We also donate clothing, toiletries, stationery and other much needed items.http://www.ccll.org.uk
Fairplay is a registered Chesterfield charity giving support to children and young people with life limiting illnesses and additional needs. Their families are also given support. Each year we organise a coffee morning for parents who are caring for these young people. This is kindly sponsored by Stephensons Tea and Coffee House.

We collect unwanted & broken jewellery, mobile phones, foreign currency and much more. All proceeds go directly to WaterAid.
