PROCESSIONS JUNE 2018 -CENTENARY OF WOMEN’S SUFFERAGE

in

JUNE 2018 – “PROCESSIONS” PROCESSIONS was a once-in-a-lifetime mass participation artwork which celebrated one hundred years of votes for women.  In 1918, the Representation of the People Act gave the first British women the right to vote and stand for public office. One hundred years on, [Artichoke] invited women and girls across the UK to come and mark this historic moment as part of a living portrait of women in the 21 century. On Sunday 10 June, women and girls in Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh and London came together as part of this celebratory mass participation artwork. Wearing either green, white or violet, the colours of the suffragette movement, the PROCESSIONS appeared as a flowing river of colour through the city streets. ( Taken from www.processions.co.uk/) Our club was very pleased to be able to join the march and the ladies who walked found an amazing atmosphere and excitement in the air.

SI Dunfermline enjoyed their visit to the Showcase Event held on 21st April in Limekilns and wish to thank the organisers for making the event so worth while. Our members enjoyed meeting visitors and members of the other organisations who were present and hope to be able to work with them in the near future. SI Dunfermline will be joining in the Showcase Event in Limekilns Church Hall on Saturday 21st April. The event  will run from 10am to 1pm. We will be promoting Soroptimism and our club whilst trying to raise some money for clean water and sanitation for our schools in Rwenzori, Uganda. This will be the first outing of the ‘toilet’. Please try to come along and support the event: the Floral Displays will be running a Coffee Morning in the Church Hall from 10am till 12 noon. So no excuses…..

APRIL 8TH 2018 update on ‘Grow Your Brand’ SI Dunfermline Following much discussion and debate we have a good 3 year rolling programme for moving our club into the future. We have also agreed a 3 year rolling programme for our Programme Action activities. We have the support from the club members to ensure that every body in the club is able to take part and contribute in the successful running of the club and reaching our goals. In addition to the ‘work’ of the club we continue with our extracurricular activities which are of a more social type. We have agreed that we need time to talk and laugh and enjoy doing different things. Last week we had a great evening with glass fusion – lots of lovely items created (no artistic talent was required!) and lots of laughter and enjoyment.                                                                      ‘Sailing into the future’.  Tina
